What I do: Examples

What I do: Examples

In brief:

I help large organisations achieve strategic and cultural change, by co-designing discrete projects (e.g. kick-offs, conferences, workshops and keynotes). And I make these processes enjoyable and socially engaging.

I bring to the table formal training and years of experience in:

  • strategy and leadership (Master of Business Administration, RMIT University — with distinctions in both strategy and leadership)
  • theatre creation and professional performance (Diploma of Dramatic Arts, University of Melbourne)
  • positive psychology (Master of Applied Positive Psychology, University of Melbourne, first class honours)

Essentially, I help you with your wicked organisational problems.

Examples of Projects

Here’s a grab-bag of repeat business (i.e. commissioned, then re-commissioned due to client satisfaction):

  • Comic improvisation and acting skills (very early career for me) in leadership development retreat programs for two of Australia’s biggest and most recognisable commercial organisations (contracts renewed over 3 years in each case)
  • Three different and very large, ongoing organisational re-alignment projects, each over about 5 years, combining strategy implementation with leadership team skills development for: (i) regional operations of a global financial services firm, (ii) an agricultural products provider, and (iii) the marketing and sales function of an enormous utilities business
  • A national transformation program for the entire front-line sales and service team of one of Australia’s largest retail insurance firms
  • Positive leadership workshops, sharing the science and skills of positive psychology and workforce well-being with the skeptical and highly-educated workforce of a major global IT firm, which achieved the highest facilitator-, workshop-satisfaction and intention-to-implement feedback scores they had seen (program expanded / renewed twice)
  • More fast-start organisational strategic change projects than I can remember, with a business model based purely on word-of-mouth (this website only went up in April 2019); most about economic change (improving understanding); many focused on desired cultural / behavioural change
  • Story-telling for leaders: a now-significant product in my portfolio, developed from a piece that I would do on the final afternoon of conferences to help the assembled leaders prepare effective messages for their teams
  • A farewell tour for the CEO of an ASX Top 5 firm: interviews in front of each state-based leadership team (to the level of front-line leaders) about company history, strategy, ongoing agenda and CEO-transition
  • An ongoing series of strategy updates using the medium of CEO interviews, for the highly financially-literate ANZ ops of a global investment bank (x 3 years)
  • People skills for farmers: a workshop in relationship-building skills, including some mental health support and some commercial skills development (renewed over 3 years)
  • An interactive workshop for a highly technical sales team (of thousands) in a highly competitive market, to help them understand their sales offering from their customers’ point of view, building their confidence in the strategy as they experienced the ways that their own customers needed their help. Expanded from one local conference to a global roll-out.

The range of work that I do is very broad; the common thread is change that bridges commercial objectives with desirable, positive and pro-social human behaviour: organisations making the world a better place for everyone
